LA PLUME, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team fell at Keystone College, 71-64, Saturday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.
Patrick O'Connor led the Knights with 19 points.
The Giants had four players in double-figures, led by Tim Benedix with 20. Tercel Taylor netted 17 points. Malcolm Boone scored 14 points and pulled down 12 rebounds and Kenneth Hardnett added 13 points.
With the teams knotted at 14 seven minutes into the game, Keystone went on an 8-0 run. The Knights answered with nine straight points, capped by a three-pointer by Bill Slade, for a 23-22 Neumann lead with 8:24 left in the first half. However, Neumann's shooting went cold and managed only two more points in the half and Keystone went into the locker room holding a 37-25 advantage.
Keystone kept the pressure up it the second half and built its lead to as many as 17. The Giants held a 16 point advantage, 59-43, with 5:14 left in regulation when the Knights started to chip away at the lead. Neumann went on an 11-1 run to cut the Giants lead to six, 60-54, with 2:29 remaining. But that was as close as Neumann would be able to get and Keystone took home the 71-64 win.
Neumann is now 9-9 overall and 6-4 in the conference. Keystone is 14-3, 8-3 in the CSAC. The Knights travel north on Monday evening to face Marywood. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
