Five Knights Score In Double Figures in Win at Marywood

SCRANTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team defeated Marywood University 82-69 Monday evening in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.

 

Patrick O'Connor led five Knights in double-digits with 21 points. The junior went 9-for-9 from the free throw line. Mike Walukiewicz netted 15 points, including three from beyond the arc. Mark Blount and Rich Whitten each netted 10 points.

 

Jacques Robinson led all players with 25 points. John Foreman netted 14 points for the Pacers.

 

Both teams traded leads early in the contest, but Marywood would go up 18-10 on a three-pointer from James Lavan with 12:37 to play in the opening frame.  The Knights would then chip away at the Marywood lead, eventually knotting the game at 20-20 with 8:08 left on a pair of free-throws by Walukiewicz.  Neumann, who connected on 12 of 13 attempts from the charity stripe in the first half, eventually took a 31-28 lead on a three from Walukiewicz with 2:06 to play.  Steve Warhola then put the visitors up six at the break by nailing a 30-footer as time expired.

Neumann would not relinquish the lead in the second half, despite Marywood getting to within two with 12:55 remaining in the second half.  Over the next seven minutes, the Knights built their lead up to 11 to put the game in the win column.

Neumann is now 10-9 overall and 7-5 in the conference. Marywood is 9-9 and 5-6 in the CSAC. The Knights host Gwynedd-Mercy on Saturday in a conference doubleheader. The women tip-off at 1 p.m. followed by the men at 3 p.m.
