ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Neumann University field hockey team defeated Cedar Crest College 5-1 on Saturday morning in its Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) regular season finale.
Ashley Verbonitz scored three goals to lead the Knights. Erica Crabtree notched a goal and two assists.
Verbonitz opened the scoring just 1:19 into the game. Crabtree and Verbonitz nettd goals in the first half and the Knights held a 3-1 lead at the half.
Melissa Hood scored in the 39th minute for a 4-1 lead. Verbonitz capped her scoring in the 46th minute.
Neumann's defense held Cedar Crest to just three shots in the game. Sam Kotowski made two saves in net.
The win puts the Knights CSAC record at 4-3 and seals a playoffs spot in the post season. Overall, Neumann is 6-11. The Knights will host Eastern next Thursday evening in the regular season finale beginning at 6:00 PM
