GENEVA, N.Y. – The Neumann University Men's Ice Hockey team defeated Hobart College 5-3 in ECAC West play Friday evening.
Steve Gervais would open the scoring for Neumann in the first period off an assist from Jordan Zalba. Less than two minutes later Aaron Keaney would find the back of the net with an assist from Chris Bournazos.
Less than halfway into the second period, Hobart would answer the Knights with a goal by Frank Salituro. Neumann would answer quickly as Zalba would put the puck between the pipes at the 10:58 mark on the power play. Gervais would dish out the assist. Hobart would again get to within one exactly three minutes later with a tally by Ryan Michel. At the end of the second period, Neumann would lead Hobart 3-2.
In the third period, Brent Tamane took advantage of the power play by netting a goal past Hobart goal tender Nick Broadwater. Scott Farrell and William Lacasse were credited the assists. The Statesmen would score a short-handed goal at the 15:42 mark making the score 4-3 Neumann. With the Knights still on the power play, Gervais would put his second tally on the sheet off of an assist by Mike Rey.
Senior goaltender Ross MacKinnon put up a stellar performance having 36 saves.
The Knights (2-0, 1-0 ECAC West) will travel to No.9 Elmira College on Saturday for a 7:00 PM start.
