Men's Basketball Fall Just Short at F&M

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team fell to Franklin & Marshall College 69-63 on Friday evening in the F&M Tip-off Tournament.

 

Gerald Bryant led the Knights with 15 points. Mark Bount notched 13 points and two blocked shots. The two blocked shots ties him with Omar Warthen for the career record with 76. Rich Whitten added 10 points.

 

The game featured nine lead changes and eight ties. In the first half, the biggest lead was held by the Diplomats, 28-21, with 3:39 on the clock. Over the next three minutes, the Knights would go on a 9-2 run, capped by a three-pointer by Mike Walukiewicz, to tie the game at 30. F&M  would hit a lay-up with 18 second left and took a two point lead, 32-30, at halftime.

 

The Knights built up a six point lead, 45-39, seven minutes into the second half. Neumann could not shake F&M and the teams remained within arm's reach of each other. The Diplomats tied the game at 51 with 7:15 left in regulation.

 

The last lead changed took place with 5:28 on the clock as the Diplomats sank two free throws. Patrick O'Conner put down two free throws with 44 seconds left for a 65-63 game. A Diplomat lay-up and two free throws in the final 11 seconds second sealed the win for F&M.

 

Hayk Gyokchyan led all scorers with 26 points. Georgio Milligan added 21 for F&M.

 

Neumann (1-1) will play again Kean tomorrow at 6:00 PM in the second day of the F&M Tip-Off Tournament.
