Men’s Ice Hockey 10 Goal Explosion Finishes SUNY Cortland

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Neumann University men's ice hockey team completed a two game road swing, beating SUNY Cortland 10-5 Saturday afternoon.

 

The Knights scored five goals in the first period and never looked back. Marlon Gardner would pick up where he left off from last night scoring just 19 seconds into the game, assisted by Cory Park. The Knights would strike again three minutes later from Brent Tamane at the 3:10 mark, assisted by Dan McDougall and Park. Four minutes later Steve Gervais scored at the 7:08 mark, assisted by Jeff Bienvenue and Mike Rey. Mike Rey claimed the fourth goal off a power play at the 9:23 mark and he was assisted by Scott Farrell and Gardner. The Red Dragons stopped the bleeding temporarily scoring a shorthanded goal at the 11:58 mark, but the Knights Ryan Dreger capped off the first period scoring, assisted by Harley Garrioch.

 

The second period would see both teams exchanging goals. The Red Dragons would start the scoring at the 6:43 mark, but the Knights would counter with a goal before you could say Mississippi. Tamane scored 23 seconds after the Red Dragons goal, assisted by McDougall and Gardner. Tamane notches a hit trick on the afternoon as he slipped another goal past the goalkeeper, assisted by Park. The Knights held a 7-3 lead after two periods.

 

The third period featured goals by Gardner, Jordan Zalba and Dave Gervais. Rey assisted on two of the goals and the others came from William LaCasse and Bienvenue.

 

Matt Tendler made 15 saves in net for his third win on the season. The Knights improve to 5-2 on the season. Neumann will host Elmira on Friday in ECAC West action beginning at 7:00 PM.
