Box Score
ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team took a commanding lead in the second half to overtake Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opponent Baptist Bible College 78-60 Wednesday night.
The game started out highly contested in the first half exchanging baskets, as well as exchanging three-pointers. The Knights were terrific on the defensive side of the ball. The pesky Knights created 29 turnovers, mirroring every move the Defenders would make on the night. If you were to ask what type of gum the defenders chewed, every Knight would be able to describe the flavor and brand name. At center court was the revolving door of players being substituted, creating the Piranha like defensive frenzy at full throttle with Lionel Richie singing “all night long”.
The first half was deadlocked at 22-22 and before you could say timeout, the Knights would go on a 12 point run to take a 34-22 advantage. The Knights would extend the lead to 20 points before walking into halftime leading by 18 points 48-30.
The Knights would shoot 60% from the top of the arch, while picking the Defenders pockets on 10 separate occasions. Mark Blount led all scorers in the first half scoring 14 points and “Robin Hood” Patrick O'Connor recorded four steals (six total in the game).
The second half continued in the same fashion that the first ended. The home team opened its lead to as many as 25 points with eleven minutes remaining. The scoring was well distributed throughout the team. The defenders would only lead in one category that being in total rebounds 30 -28.
The Knights were able to kill off the game early and received double digit scoring from Blount's 18 points, Mike Walukiewicz 14 points and O'Connor's 11 points.
"I thought we did a great job of playing 40 minutes of teamwork. We got back to playing aggressive defense, that prehaps we didn't establish the last couple of games. If we continue to be a consistent hard working defensive team, we'll have a lot to be proud of at the end of the season", stated Coach Stanziano.
The Knights 5-3 overall, 2-2 in the conference are back in action this Saturday December 10th against CSAC foe's Keystone College for a 1 p.m. tip off.
