ASTON, PA- The Neumann University men's basketball hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to defeat Baptist Bible College, 77-75, Thursday evening in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play.
The Knights trailed by one, 75-74, with three seconds in regulation when Marquise Boggs hit a buzzer beater for the 77-75 win. The Defenders put in a lay-up for the one point advantage leaving the opportunity for the dramatic finish.
The teams were tied at 71 with 44 seconds left on the clock. BBC went up by two on a lay-up. Mike Walukiewicz then hit one-of-two from the line. He grabbed his own rebound off the missed free throw and put it back in for the one point Neumann lead.
The Knights were led by Marquise Boggs who scored a game high 25 points. Patrick O'Connor contributed with a double-double, putting in 24 points and bringing down 10 rebounds.
Baptist Bible was led by Tommy Waszaj, who scored 23 points, 18 of those points coming off 3-pointers. Ryan Sullivan added a double-double with 15 points and 10 boards. Jordan Grave also got into double digits with 10 points.
After Baptist Bible put up the first point of the game, the Knights would then follow with an 11-0 run to take an early 11-1 lead. A three-pointer by Sullivan locked the game back up 13-13 with just over 13 minutes to go. The Defenders would then take the lead, 15-13, with a Sullivan lay-up. It would be a cat and mouse game for the remainder of the first half as there were a total of 11 lead changes. The Defenders would take a four point lead into the locker room at half time.
For the first 10 minutes of the second half the Defenders would not surrender the lead. After a made free throw by Boggs at the 10:00 mark the Knights would take the lead 57-56. After trading baskets, the Defenders would break free and take an eight point lead with 3:18 remaining. Neumann would go on a 6-0 of their own and tie the game up 71-71 with a jumper by O'Connor.
With the win Neumann improves to 12-10, 9-6 CSAC, Baptist Bible drops to 5-16, 3-11 CSAC.
Neumann will travel to Rosemont College Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
