ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's ice hockey team defeated No. 7 Utica College, 5-1, Friday evening in ECAC West action.

Michael Rey notched two goals for the Knights. Steve Gervais had a goal and two assists. Jordan Zalba dished out two assists. Ross MacKinnon made 22 saves in net.

Nick Therrien made 24 saves not Utica.

Mat Valois opened the scoring for Neumann at the 16:41 mark of the first period. Cory Park scored the eventual game-winner 17 seconds later for a 2-0 Knights lead.

George Lotito cut the Knights lead to 2-1 with a goal at the 15:53 mark of the second period. The teams would go into the second intermission with a 2-1 score.

Gervais gave Neumann the two goal cushion back with a goal at the 12: 52 mark of the third. Rey then scored his first goal with 4:33 left in regulation. The freshman notched his second goal on the power play with 2:02 left and a 5-1 Neumann lead.

Neumann improves to 11-7-5 and 5-4-1 in the conference. Utica is now 17-6 overall and 6-4 in ECAC West play. The two teams will meet tomorrow evening beginning at 7 p.m. It is also senior night where Jeff Rodell and Sean Bianchini will be honored before they play their last home regular season game.
