ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Neumann University men's ice hockey team clinched the second seed in the ECAC West playoffs with a 4-2 win at No. 6 Elmira College Friday evening.
Sean Bianchini opened the scoring for the Knights on the power 5:24 into the game. D'Lane Sather and Ryan Dreger assisted on the goal. Michael Rey then put Neumann up 2-0 a minute and a half later on an unassisted goal.
Elmira made it 2-1 at the 11:07 mark as Colin Hoey scored. The Soaring Eagles tied the game on a power play goal with 2:10 left in the first period.
Neither team scored in the second and the Knights and Soaring Eagles head into the third period tied at two.
Marlon Gardner scored the eventual game-winner with a power play goal midway through the third period. Scott Farrell and William Lacasse had the assists. Aaron Keaney added an insurance goal at the 12:15 mark. Sean Crozier assisted on the goal.
Ross MacKinnon made 36 saves in net as Elmira outshot Neumann 38-26.
With the win, Neumann finishes the regular season 13-7-5 overall, 7-4-1 in the conference. Elmira is now 15-6-3 overall and 8-3 in the ECAC West. The Knights will host Utica College next Saturday in a ECAC West semifinal.
