Men's Basketball Falls in Close Semifinal Game

RADNOR, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball fell to Cabrini College, 79-76, Tuesday evening in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) semifinal match-up.

 

Marquise Boggs netted 35 points, including six from beyond the arc, for the Knights. Patrick O'Connor added 14 while Mark Blount notched eight points and three blocks. Terrance Clark blocked four shots.

 

Cory Lemons led four Cavaliers in double-digits with 21 points. Dom Farrello netted 16 points and 11 rebounds. Goran Dulac notched 14 points while John Boyd added 13.

 

The game came down to the wire. The Knights took a 76-75 lead with two minutes left in regulation. Farrello then put the Cavaliers back up by one with 30 seconds left on the clock. Neumann had the ball for the last shot, and with time winding down, Boggs took a shot. The Cavaliers blocked the shot and the Knights fouled. Farrello hit two free throws for a three point Cabrini lead. The Knights then attempted a three at the buzzer, but it did not connect and the Cavaliers came away with the 79-76 win.

 

The first half featured 12 lead changes and seven ties. The largest lead of the half was four points. Mike Walukiewicz hit a three-pointer for the Knights with one second left on the clock and Neumann took a 35-33 lead into halftime.

 

Cabrini came out in the second half on fire and built up an 11 point lead, 50-39, six minutes in. The Cavaliers would hold a 12 point advantage, 64-52, with 9:16 remaining in regulation when the Knights started to chip their way back into the game. Neumann would get to within two points, 68-66, on a lay-up by O'Connor with 5:45 on the clock.

 

Neumann and Cabrini would be tied at 72 with 3:53 left as the teams traded baskets and the lead down the stretch. The Cavaliers shot 51.7 percent in the second half.

 

Neumann is 16-11 on the season and will now wait for the ECAC Tournament announcement next week to see if its season will continue. Cabrini improves to 21-5 and will host Gwynedd-Mercy in the CSAC Championship game on Friday.
