IMMACULATA, Pa. – Freshman Mark Blount hit a lay-up as time expired to give the Neumann University men's basketball team a 60-59 win at Immaculata University Monday evening in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play.
Patrick O'Connor led the Knights with 24 points and 13 rebounds. He went 8-for-8 from the line. Blount added 11 points.
Rob Siter netted 23 points for the Mighty Macs. Darnell Malabet netted 15 points and Nelson Torres added 13.
In the final 5:43 of regulation, there were three ties and three lead changes and neither team led by more than three. Neumann held a two point lead, 56-54, with 1:59 left on the clock. Neither team scored again until Siter hit one-of-two from the line with 24 seconds left. O'Connor then made 2-of-2 free throws for a three point Knights advantage. Siter made a lay-up and a jumper within five seconds of each other after taking advantage of a Neumann turnover to put the Mighty Macs up by one with nine seconds left in regulation. Blount spoiled the Immaculata come-back and hit the lay-up as time ran out for the 60-59 win.
Neumann opened the game on a 13-1 run. The Mighty Macs connected on their first basket 5:27 into the game for a 13-3 score. Immaculata got the score to within three, 24-21, with 3:53 left in the first half. Neumann held a six point advantage, 31-25, at halftime.
Neumann improves to 11-10 overall, 8-6 in the CSAC. Immaculata is now 9-12 and 7-7 in the conference. The Knights host Baptist Bible on Thursday evening in a CSAC doubleheader. The women tip-off at 6 p.m. followed by the men at 8 p.m.
