ASTON, Pa. – A strong third quarter propelled the Neumann University men's lacrosse team to a 13-12 win over Shenandoah University in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action on Wednesday afternoon.
The first quarter started off back and forth until the Hornets four straight goals to jump out to a 7-3 lead. The teams split goals in the second quarter and Shenandoah held a 9-4 advantage at the half.
Ferraro notched a goal just 22 seconds into the third quarter. The Hornets responded with a goal less than a minute later. There was no more scoring in the half, until Ferraro scored with 4:42 on the clock. That started the surge of the Knights and they notched six goals in the final five minutes, including one by Pantelone as the buzzer sounded, for an 11-10 Neumann lead going into the final quarter.
Sam Maldou put the Knights up 12-10 with 8:30 left on the clock. Shenandoah would get to within one with 8:04 left in regulation. The Hornets would then tie the game at 12 with 3:05 left. Miner would net the game-winning goal with 2:43 left on the clock and gave the Knights their first conference win on the season.
With the win, Neumann improves to 3-7 overall and 1-2 in the CSAC. The win is also the second straight for the Knights. Neumann will host Marywood in conference action on Saturday beginning at 3 p.m.
