ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann women's field hockey team suffered a 3-1 defeat against non-conference foe Moravian College Tuesday night.
Callie Emel would start the scoring for the Knights in the 25th minute. Off a broken play, Emel found daylight and with her quick reflexes she was able to strike the ball into the goal. In the first half, the Knights stymied the Greyhounds and frustrated them as the Neumann defense walked into the half-time break with a 1-0 lead.
In a good defensive effort, the Knights would find disappointment 17 minutes into the second half. Moravian was able to attack in transition and Sam Kotowski came up with the initial save only to find another Moravian attacker following up the shot for the goal.
With 10 minutes left in the game, the Greyhounds Catherine Duffin would notch the game winner in another scramble in front of the net. The Knights would have one more great opportunity as Emel weaved her way through Moravian's defense and broke free on goal. Emel struck the ball with great force and velocity only to see it go over the goal.
With less than three minutes left, the Greyhounds would put the game out of reach. Moravian College took the advantage in corners with 10 to Neumann's 7 corners. Kotowski had eight saves on the day.
The Knights (1-5) play this Thursday at Kings College for a 7 PM start time.
