Volleyball Splits in Tri-Match

9/24/2011 8:28:00 PM

Neumann 3, Baptist Bible 0
Catholic 3, Neumann 1

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann women's volleyball team defeated Baptist Bible College in three sets for conference play on Saturday morning. The Knights would meet non-conference Catholic University and lose in four sets in the second match.

It was the tale of two matches, Baptist Bible didn't have an answer for the Knights, as they were swift and thorough. The scores were 25-8, 25-22 and 25-18, as the game was over before you could say “Orville Rettinbacker.” Katelin Kuklentz had 11 kills and three three aces, Cecily Scavecchio had 22 assists and Danielle Kwapisz had 12 digs.

Catholic University would prove to be dangerous and efficient winning (22-25, 25-15, 25-21 and 25-13). The Knights had so many digs that they found themselves in a hole they couldn't dig themselves out of this time. Victoria Limmina had 18 digs, Kuklentz had 17 digs, Scavecchio had 16 digs, Kwapisz had 14 digs……and a partridge and a pear tree. By the way, Catholic is 12-1 which makes them hot-to-trot at the moment.

The Knights had 12 service receiving errors which was symptomatic of how the game went and the team kills seemed to be few and far between. Natalie George had 16 kills, Kuklentz had 11 kills, while Scavecchio had 39 assist.

“I feel it is important to learn and grow and I think that our girls get that,” said Coach Jespersen.”The girls will learn from the Catholic match and serve as motivation for our conference games this week.”

The Knights play at Gwynedd Mercy on Tuesday Sept. 27 at 7:00 PM in conference match up. The Knights will turn around two days later to meet arch-rival Cabrini College home at 7 pm in conference play.
