ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team defeated Immaculata University in the Colonial States Athletic Conference match Wednesday night 69-62.
The Knights got off to a comfortable 7-0 start with Terrance Clark hitting a three pointer, followed by Mike Walukiewicz two point field goal and Mark Blount delighting the home crowd on a thunderous dunk. The Mighty Macs cut the lead to 1 point 11-10 with 14:03 remaining in the first half. Over the next four minutes, the Knights made an 11-2 run with a 22-12 lead. A Jumper from Mighty Macs, Nelson Torres, gave the visitors the lead for the first time in the game. Mark Blount would tie the game 34-34 with another dunk and Rich Whitten hit a three pointer with 35 seconds remaining to give the Knights a 37-34 lead going into halftime.
The Knights put the game into full throttle for the second half. The Mighty Macs cut the lead to one point 39-38 with 17:34 remaining in the game. Eric Bowman started a run that would never have the Knights looking back. As Bowmen scored a layup with 1`7:06 remaining on the clock, Mike Walukiewicz would hit a three point field goal and then Patrick O'Connor scored on a layup leading 46-38. The Knights would straddle the lead between six to nine points for the remainder of the game and finish with a convincing 69-62 win.
Mark Blount led the Knights with 20 points, eight rebounds and 3 blocks. Terrance Clark (sr. Middletown, Del. / Middletown) added 10 points and four assist. The Knights held the edge in total rebounds edging the Mighty Macs 44-37.
"I thought we did what we needed to today," said Coach Stanziano. "We did a very good job doing the little things right, at the end of the game."
The Knights are 4-4 in the CSAC and they will host Philadelphia Biblical University January 14 for a 1 p.m. tipoff.
