Elmira, N.Y. – The Neumann University women's ice hockey team loses 4-1 against No. 3 Elmira College in ECAC West Conference play Saturday night.
The Knights started the game with a dream start. It only took 1:38 to score a goal from Kayla Dubowski off an assist from Linsey Spatola. The No. 3 Soaring Eagles needed a response and got one 11:31 into the first period. Shannon Donnelly made 13 saves to Elmira's 8 saves.
The Knights lost their form in the second period conceding two penalties. Shannon Donnelly became very active in the period as she made 22 saves. Two goals were claimed by the Soaring Eagles to extend their lead to 3-1. The first goal came 4:52 into the period and the second goal was suffered from the Knights second penalty 15:12 into the period.
The Knights pressed the third period searching for a goal to bring them back into the game. The desire to press for a goal was too great and the Knights reluctantly lost their composure surrendering three penalties. The Knights pulled the goalie and gave up an empty net goal 20 seconds left in the game.
The Knights 2-8-2 and No. 3 Elmira 12-1-1with meet again tomorrow afternoon for a 3 p.m. start time.
