Men's Hockey Comes Away with 5-3 Win

ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Neumann University men's ice hockey team picked up its first win of the season with a 5-3 victory at Elmira College on Saturday evening in ECAC West action.

 

The Knights started the game with a bang, scoring four goals in the first period, three coming on the man-advantage. Steve Gervais picked up where he left off last night and scored just 38 seconds into the game.

 

Andrew Love made it 2-0 six minute into the game. Scott Farell scored two goals in a three minute span, both on the power play, to put Neumann up 4-0.

 

With time winding down in the third period, it looked like Neumann had control of the game, but four more goals would be scored in the final three minutes of play. Elmira spoiled the shutout with less than three minutes left in regulation. The Soaring Eagles would put another puck in the net 32 seconds later for a 4-2 game.

 

Chris Bournazos scored for Neumann with 1:34 left on the clock for a 5-2 advantage. Elmira was not done and put in another goal with its goalie pulled and 13 seconds left. After the flurry of goals in the final minutes of the game, the Knights came away with the 5-3 win.

 

Aaron Keaney handed out three assists in the game. Love and Bournazos each had a goal and an assist. Braely Torris made his first start in net for Neumann and made 32 saves in the win.

 

Neumann (1-1, 1-1 ECAC West) will open its home schedule next Friday and Saturday with two home games against Utica in conference action. The puck is slated to drop at 7 PM both nights.
