Women's Ice Hockey Downed by No. 5 Elmira

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's ice Hockey team were sunk by No. 5 Elmira College 6-1 in ECAC West action, Sunday afternoon.

The Soaring Eagles gave the Knights an early reminder why they are ranked fifth nationally, as they scored 2:20 into the first period to make it 1-0.

Neumann was able to get a quick response as Shanelle Doucette revived the Knights and scored 9:37 into the first period to tie the score 1-1.

Elmira scored four goals in the second period to take a 5-1 lead after two periods. The Soaring Eagles scored 11:21 into the second period. The Knights were then gifted a power play. What turned into a great opportunity to tie the score with a man advantage, turned into a short-handed Elmira goal and a 3-1 lead.

The Knights did a great job killing off a 5-3 Elmira power play. But, the Knights weren't able to close the period without conceding two more goals in the final 1:46 left in the second period, extending the Soaring Eagles lead to 5-1.

Elmira scored another goal in the final stanza to win 6-1.

Shannon Donnelly made 39 saves on the day.

The Knights (2-6-1, 2-4 ECAC West) host Connecticut College in non-conference action Saturday, December 8 at 7 p.m.
