Men's Basketball Falls Short to Rowan

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team fell in a close 71-67 game to Rowan University in non-conference action on Thursday evening.

 

Rich Whitten led the Knights with 23 points. Reggie Coleman netted 14 points. TaVaune Griffin picked up a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds and also had four blocks. Mel Weldon pulled down 10 boards.

 

Rowan opened the game scoring seven of the first nine points. Neumann started to chip its way onto the scoreboard and a Griffin jumper tied the game at 14 with 7:33 left in the first half. Four more points straight by the Knights gave them an 18-14 advantage. The Profs then went on a 13-2 run for a 27-20 lead. Rowan held a 34-29 advantage at the break thanks to a midcourt shot at the buzzer for three points.

 

The Knights came out of the locker room and quickly started to take control. Neumann built up a 46-40 lead five minutes into the half. The Profs would not go away they went on their own run to take a 48-43 lead midway through the half.

 

The final two minutes of the game was a foul and free throw contest. Rowan was up 64-57 with two minutes remaining in regulation. Whitten and Coleman then each went 2-for-2 from the line for a three point contest. The Profs answered, going 4-for-4 to go back up by seven. Coleman hit a three-pointer with two second on the clock to come back within three, 70-67, but the Knights could not complete the comeback.

 

Neumann (3-7) will be back on the court after the New Year when it travels to Baptist Bible on January 7 for conference action beginning at 8:00 PM.
