Knights Fly Past Ravens, Advance to Semifinals

ROSEMONT, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team defeated Rosemont College 73-59 on Saturday afternoon in the first round of the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) playoffs.

 

Neumann is the No. 5 seed in the postseason while Rosemont held the No. 4 slot.

 

Gerald Bryant lit up the court with 27 points on the afternoon, including six baskets from downtown. Mark Blount connected for 16 points and nine rebounds. Dom Gibson added 10 points.

 

The Knights connected on nine three-pointers going 42.9% for the game. The Ravens did not make a three-pointer.

 

Rosemont came out on fire in the first half and took an early 11-2 lead six minutes into the game. Gibson hit two free throws and a layup to stop the Ravens run. Rosemont held a 25-14 advantage with 6:21 left in the first half and then Neumann started to cut into the lead. The Knights went on an 11-4 run to make the score 29-25. With time winding down in the half, Mike Walukiewicz hit a three-pointer to cut the Ravens lead to one and the teams went into the locker rooms, 34-33.

 

Rosemont scored the first five points of the second half to build its lead to 39-33. Neumann scored the next eight points to take a 31-39 lead, its first lead since the beginning of the game.

 

Over the next five minutes, the Knights built their lead up to 12, 59-47, with 8:47 left on the clock.  Neither team could hit the basket over the next three minutes. The Ravens broke the scoreless drought with a layup and free throw. Bryant responded with back-to-back three-pointers.

 

Again the teams did not score a point for two-and-a-half minutes. By this time, Neumann held a 15 point advantage with two minutes remaining and took home the 73-59 win.

 

With the win, the Knights (13-13) advance to the CSAC semifinals. Neumann will travel to No. 2 seeded Keystone on Tuesday evening for a 7:00 PM tip-off.
