Men’s Basketball Beaten by Giants in CSAC Semi-Finals

LA PLUME, Pa. – The Neumann University men 's basketball season comes to an end against Keystone College in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) semi-finals of the playoffs Wednesday evening 98-75.

The first half started with the Knights jumping off to a 6-0 lead and Mark Blount dunked the ball for the fifth and sixth point. The Giants absorbed the blow and went on a 9-0 run to lead 9-6. Another 9-0 run would pace the Giants to a 19-9 lead. The Knights drew back to level terms 20-20 with 8:50 left in the half. Blount capped off the Knights run with eight points that included a dunk off a great feed from Terrance Clark. Gerald Bryant hit a three pointer to conclude the Knights run.

The Giants capitalized on Neumann's turnovers with open looks and easy dunks stretching a six point lead (29-23) at the 4:30 mark to a 12 point lead (37-25) with 3:05 left in the first half.

The Knights closed the gap on the Giants to trail by nine point at the half 42-33. Clark hit a three pointer, while Bryant drained a two pointer and finished the half by scoring an old fashion three pointer.

The Giants opened a 12-5 run and jumped out to a 16 points lead 54-38. The Knights did not have an answer for the Giants inside outside game. If the Giants were not scoring from three point range, they were able to get the ball down low for lay-ups. The Giants jumped to a sizeable lead throughout the remainder of the second half. The Giants led 80-54 with 6:20 remaining in the game. The Knights battled to the end of the game, but the Giants executed their game plan to perfection.

The Giants doubled the amount of rebounds with a 44 – 21 advantage. The Giants scored 42 second half points in the paint.

The Knights were led by Bryant scoring 18 points, Blount contributed 14 points and Clark added 13 points.

The Giants had three scorers in double figures. Kenneth Hardnett led all scorers with 28 points and 15 rebounds.

Neumann ends their season with a 13-14 overall record. No. 2 Keystone advances to the CSAC championship game at No. 1 Cabrini College on Friday.
