Box Score

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's lacrosse team opened the season with a win against non conference King's College 9-5.

King's College jumped out to a quick start, scoring a goal 54 seconds into the first quarter. The Knights only had two shots on goal in the quarter.

Things would get very interesting in the second quarter. King's doubled its lead to 2-0 with 11:29 remaining in the quarter. The Knights had two options, open door number one and stage a comeback or open door number two and let the game slip away. Rightfully so, the Knights chose door number one and Ryan O'Kane would answer the calling to get the boys going. O'Kane scored at the 6:17 mark from an assist from Steven Miner.

With only five seconds remaining in the first half, the Knights had the ball at midfield, as King's College just threw the ball out of bounds. Nick Ferraro did what most people would do in this situation, by throwing the ball into the goal box. Miner did the unthinkable, as he sent his stick on the elevator to the tenth floor. After the King's goalkeeper vacated the goal, Miner caught the ball and backhanded it into the open net with one second left in the first half. Miner's goal tied the game 2-2.

Three times is a charm, as King's College scored another early goal, just 20 seconds into the third quarter. Before you knew it, the Knights were down 5-3. Again, the Knights chose door number one and the familiar face of O'Kane stepped up and scored. The Knights love drama and Mark Consolo (so. Limerick, Pa. / Spring Ford) slipped past numerous King's players and tied the game at 5-5 with only 23 seconds remaining in the third quarter.

Consolo took a page out of King's College book and scored a goal 14 seconds into the fourth quarter to receive his hat-trick. The Knights crowd jumped out of their seats in delight, as there were no hats being thrown on the field for Consolo's three goal bonanza.

Sam Maldou scored to stretch the Knight's lead 7-5. Maldou received a pass from behind the net and dazzled his way to the front of the goal, but off to the side. Leaping away from the goal, Maldou snapped a shot past the goalkeeper.

Kenny Worth provided the entertainment, as he dashed through Leo the Lion and cut across the goal. He drew the goalkeeper out and threw the ball behind his back to score. The team celebrated the goal, as did the fans.

Mike Pantalone closed out the scoring with a nice individual effort with 1:29 remaining in the game, as the Knights went on to win 9-5

Andrew Neubauer was excectional in the game, as he made 15 saves on the day.

The Knights try to make it two in a row, as they travel to Richard Stockton February 29 for a 7 p.m. start.
