Box Score
ASTON, PA. – The Neumann University men's lacrosse team lost to non-conference opponents Hood College 6-5 Friday evening.
On a cold and windy night, the Knights gave up two early goals, within 4:04 into the first quarter and trail 2-0. Neumann went 0-4 in extra-man attempts and struggled to get off quality goal scoring opportunities.
The second quarter, the Knights outshot Hood 12-5, but the score line told another story, as the Knights trailed 4-1 at halftime.
Mark Consolo scored the lone goal for the Knights off an assist from Steve Miner.
Ryan O'Kane scored first in the third quarter to draw the Knights back to within two goals from an extra-man opportunity with 5:15 left in the quarter. Hood College scored 83 seconds later to extend their lead to 5-2. The Knights needed a quick response and they got one from Miner. Miner danced to find open space and scored low on Hood's keeper with 2:12 left in the third quarter.
The Knights have proven to come back from three goal deficits on a few occasions already and their team spirit came to life in the fourth.
Kenny Worth scored a timely goal 20 seconds into the fourth quarter closing the gap to 5-4. Then
Mike Pantalone fired a shot past the Hood's keeper to tie the game at 5-5. Both teams had quality shots to win the game, but Hood College saw an opening with 3:13 remaining in the game. Hood struck gold scoring on a man up situation to win 6-5.
Andrew Neubauer made 10 saves.
The Knights showed tremendous resilience to find their way back into the game. On any other night, the Knights would find a way to push themselves to victory. But on this night, the balance swung the other way.
The talented Knights 2-2 are back in action March 13 against Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opponents Rosemont College, slated to start at 4 p.m.
