Volleyball Splits in Virginia

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Neumann University volleyball team went 1-1 during day two of the Virginia Wesleyan Tournament on Saturday, including picking up its first win of the season.

Neumann fell to host Va. Wesleyan in four set in the first match of the morning. Natalie George led the offensive effort with 15 kills and a .429 hitting average. Katelin Kuklentz added nine kills and Gianna Jones had five.

Kelsey D'Imperio and Caitlin Cantwell led the way at the net, getting hands on a lot of the balls at the net. Victoria Limmina notched 27 digs as the team managed 83 in the match. Elaina Shooster grabbed 12 digs while Cecily Scavicchio and Danielle Kwapisz each had 11. Scavicchio dished out 32 assists.

In their final match of the tournament, the Knights defeated Mt. Aloysious in three sets.

George again led the Knights offense with seven kills and a .357 hitting average. Kuklentz added six kills and 15 digs. Freshman Sarah Sanderson notched her first four collegiate kills.

Limmina anchored the defense with 13 digs. Kristine Quinn added two digs and a service ace. She had great quick plays and solid passing.

Scavicchio had nine digs in the game to reach the 1,000 dig plateau for her career. She also handed out 20 assists while Ashley Clark notched eight.

Natalie George was named to the All-Tournament team.

Neumann (1-3) will participate in the Buttermaker Classic next weekend at Muhlenberg College.
