Knights Fall in Final Seconds to Phoenix

9/11/2012 6:46:00 PM

Box Score

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University's field hockey team fell to Wilson College 2-1 on Tuesday afternoon.

The entire game was a constant battle for the lead from the beginning minutes. Both teams showed excellent defense to start the game off. Ellyn Jones, a senior forward, banked in a goal off of a deflected shot by freshman forward Alyssa McConaghie in the seventh minute to give the Knights a 1-0 lead.  Wilson has some opportunities to score, as did Neumann in the first half, but both defenses played solid.

Neumann led 1-0 going into the second half. As the second half started, both teams came out like a storm, but as in the first half, defense seemed to be the common theme. Plenty of opportunities came and went for both teams before Wilson was able to tie the game up in the 47th minute. The rest of the way was again a defensive show. Both teams grinded the whole game and it looked as if the game was going to go into overtime.

However, Wilson was awarded a penalty stroke with just 22 seconds remaining in regulation. The Phoenix, with one swift swing, was able to take advantage and netted the game-winning goal.

Lindsey Kasecamp made 11 saves in net for the Knights. Jillian DeFina notched a defensive save.

Neumann (0-4) will look to rebound from this defeat when they travel to Ursinus College on Thursday. The game is slated to begin at 4:30 PM.
