Warrenton, Va. – The Neumann University field hockey team (0-5) dropped a 1-0 decision in non-conference action against Virginia Wesleyan College Sunday afternoon.

The field hockey team took to the field in a rare Sunday appearance to meet Virginia Wesleyan. The Knights spent the last two days polishing their skills in preparation for their first conference game next week. The Knights are forging ahead and making plays across the field.

It was Virginia Wesleyan who recorded the lone goal early in the first half. The Marlins reeled in a loose ball that was shot from the top of the circle that would make the final decision.

The Knights continue to build momentum in the midfield. The Marlins' attempt to bait the Knights with their quick passing during their transfer where extinguished when Carolyn Bacho and Beth Lounsberry cut the ball off before the pass connected. Kenya Woods used her speed and trademark five-hole dodge to advance her team into the circle.

The defensive unit consisting of Chelsa O'Donnell, Heather String and newcomer Jillian DeFina continue to stand their ground in the defensive circle.

“Everything that we are working for is to be able to compete in conference play,” said Coach Kurpel. “We can take a lot from our non-conference results and now make the necessary revisions for the second aspect of our season (CSAC competition).”

The Knights will travel to CSAC foe on Tuesday September 18 for the first conference match-up of the season against Marywood University for a 4 p.m. start time.
