Box Score

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's field hockey team won their first game of the season this Saturday morning when they defeated Cedar Crest College 5 to 3.

Both teams came out strong in the opening minutes. The Knights took an early 1 to 0 lead on Cedar Crest when freshman Kenya Woods scored on a spectacular pass by senior Ellyn Jones. The Knights and the Falcons continued to be on an offensive attack. Cedar Crest scored two quick goals after being down 1-0 to take the lead. Lindsey Spatola tied the game before the half.

The second half was as the first; both teams pushed offensively and missed ample opportunities to score. Spatola scored again to give the Knights a 3-2 lead, and from this point on Neumann was the more dominant team, but Cedar Crest did make it a challenge.

Goals by freshmen Alyssa McConaghie and Woods sealed the win for the Knights who held on for the win, 5-3. Spatola led the attack of the Knights by scoring two goals and assisting on one.

Lindsey Kasecamp was solid in net, allowing two goals over the entire game before giving way to Nicole Galvin who allowed one goal in the final three minutes of the game. Chelsa O'Donnell had some key defensive saves for the Knights.

The Knights (1-6) will look to build some momentum when they face Notre Dame of Maryland next Saturday afternoon.
