Kuklentz 1,000 Kills Propel Knights to Two Victories

9/29/2012 8:16:00 PM

Neumann 3, Cairn 0
Neumann 3, Frostburg 1

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University volleyball team won both matches against Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opponents Cairn University and non conference Frostburg State University Saturday afternoon.

Neumann swept Cairn (25-18,25-19,25-12) in straight sets. The Knights statistics showed no wow factor, but the convincing win was enough for all involved.
Cecily Scavicchio had 36 assist; Natalie George had 11 kills; Julia Malseed had 10 digs and Katelin Kuklentz had 12 kills.

In the second match of the day, the Knights provided unnecessary drama winning (25-19, 25-17, 24-26, 25-19). Kuklentz would take headlines for match against Frostburg State as she recorded her 1,000th kill milestone in the first set.

Many years ago Cal Ripken Jr. became the leader in games played and on that day, recollection has it that he hit at least one homerun and then took a ceremonious lap around the park. Kuklentz didn't receive the same fan fare, but perhaps maybe she should have? “Kookie” Kuklentz may as well have hit a home run when she had a 0.486 hitting percentage. Perhaps you can point to the 19 kills, 14 digs or the four aces. One word for “Kookie” AWESOME!

This isn't chump change that Scavicchio had 48 assist and 12 digs. George had 14 kills and four blocks and Victoria Limmina had 17 digs. Limmina would have had 18 digs, but one shot ricochet off her shoulder.

If there was bad news, it would have been that the Knights were up two sets with a 24-18 lead and found a way to make Frostburg feel really good about themselves losing 24-26.

The fourth set wasn't defining but simply resilient!

The volleyball team (4-0 CSAC) is back to business October 4 at Rosemont for a 4 p.m. start
