Defenders Edge Knights in CSAC Action

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team dropped a tight 62-59 decision to Baptist Bible College on Wednesday evening in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.

Mark Blount led the Knights with 18 points, eight rebounds and three blocks. Rich Whitten notched 13 points.

The game came down the final two minutes of the second half, as the teams were tied at 57. Reggie Coleman hit a lay-up to put the Knights up by two, 59-57, with 51 seconds left in regulation. The Defenders answered with a three to take a one point lead with 40 seconds remaining.

The Knights had the ball with 12 seconds left and down by one when BBC knocked the ball out of the Knights hands. Neumann fouled the Defenders and they went 2-for-2 from the line for a three-point advantage, 62-59, with 10 seconds left. Coleman took a desperation shot as the buzzer sounded to tie the game, but could not connect.

The game featured runs by both teams and neither team could build a double-digit lead. Neumann opened with the first six points. Baptist Bible then made 12 of the next 15 points for a 9-9 advantage. The Defenders held a 28-23 lead at the half.

Whitten hit a three to start the second half and tie the game at 28, the first of eight ties of the half. There were also seven lead changes through the final 20 minutes.

Neumann (7-10, 6-4 CSAC) travels to Rosemont on Saturday for CSAC action beginning at 3:00 PM.
