Men's Hockey Falls to No. 8 Utica

UTICA, N.Y. – The No. 15 Neumann University men's ice hockey team fell to No. 8 Utica College 6-2 on Friday evening in ECAC West action.

 

Utica scored the only goal in the first period and then added three more goals in the second period to take a 4-0 lead after 40 minutes of play.

 

The Knights started to make some noise as the third period started. Steve Gervais put Neumann on the board with a power play goal 2:01 into the third period off assists from D'Lane Sather and Scott Farrell. Craig Cowie scored to cut the Pioneers lead to two, 4-2, 5:15 into the third. Dan McDougall and Farrell drew the assists on the man advantage tally.

 

Utica took back its three goal lead midway through the third period. The Pioneers then added an empty net goal with 14 seconds left in regulation to seal the win.

 

Ben Curley started the game, taking the loss. He made 14 saves and allowed three goals. Braely Torris made 15 saves in the second half of the game,

 

Neumann is now 11-5-2 overall and 3-5 in conference action. The loss snaps the Knights' seven-game winning streak. Neumann will face Nazareth tomorrow evening in ECAC West action. This is the first meeting between the two teams. Face-off is slated for 7:00 PM.
