ROSEMONT, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team completed the season sweep of Rosemont College with an 84-62 win on the road in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action on Saturday afternoon.
Rich Whitten netted a game-high 26 points to lead the Knights. Mark Blount netted 22 points while Reggie Coleman added 13 points and eight assists. TaVaune Griffin had four blocks.
The game was a tale of two halves with Rosemont pacing the first half and Neumann taking control of the second half.
The Ravens came out and scored the first seven points of the game. After a timeout, the Knights answered with nine of the next 11 points to tie the game at 9-9. Rosemont went on another run and took a 21-11 lead with 11:23 left in the first half. Neumann kept its composure, remembering it's a 40 minute game and started to make its way back into the game. Benny Birch gave the Knights their first lead of the game, 29-28, with 3:53 left on the clock. The Ravens scores the last seven points of the half and took a 35-31 lead into the locker rooms.
Blount came out of the locker rooms and connected on two dunks in the first two minutes of the half to tie the game at 35. The junior was fouled on his second dunk and made the free throw for a one point lead. The Ravens would lead just one more time in the game. Whitten made a lay-up to take away Rosemont's lead for the final time. He went on to score seven straight points to give the Knights control of the game.
That was all Neumann needed as it went on to build its lead throughout the half and come away with the 84-62 win.
Neumann is now 8-10 overall and 7-4 in the conference. The Knights return home for the next three games, beginning with Marywood on Monday evening as part of a doubleheader with the women.
