ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team fell to King's (Pa.) College, 76-66, in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.
Four Knights reached double-figures on the afternoon, led by Laura Scott with 16 points. Bethany Humenik netted 14 points followed by Colleen Hinde with 12 and JoHanna Metzger with 10. Jessica Schlesman handed out seven assists.
The Lady Monarchs kept steady pressure on the Knights throughout the first half and built a lead to as many as 22, 42-20, during the first 20 minutes. King's held a 44-24 lead at the half.
King's held a 62-41 lead with 8:56 left on the clock before Neumann started its comeback attempt. Humenik scored 12 of her 14 points in the second half. Over the next three minutes, the Knights went on a 13-0 run to get to within eight, 62-54. Metzger scored four points during the run while Erica Marvel hit a three-pointer.
Down the stretch of the final five minutes, the teams traded baskets. A jumper by Hinde got the Knights to within seven, 69-62, with 1:52 left in regulation, but that was the closest the Knights would be able to get and the comeback attempt fell just short.
Neumann (4-8) gets back into conference action on Wednesday when it travels to Cabrini for a doubleheader with the men. Action for the women gets underway at 6:00 PM.
