ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Neumann University men's ice hockey team fell in its first game of the 2013-14 season, 4-2, at Elmira College in ECAC West action on Friday evening.
Elmira scored two quick goals at the 2:31 and 2:48 marks of the first period, the first coming on the man-advantage. The Soaring Eagles added a third goal at the 15:05 mark of the second period on the power play.
Jon Low scored the first goal of the season for the Knights at the 7:50 mark of the third period. Dan McDougall and Ryan Luiten (first collegiate point) notched the assists.
Jory Mullin netted his first collegiate goal to pull Neumann to within one, 3-2. Low and Luiten notched the assists as the Knights attempted the comeback.
Neumann's bid for a comeback fell short as Elmira netted an empty net goal with 1:12 left in regulation for a 4-2 score and eventual final.
Braely Torris made 32 saves in net for the Knights. Elmira held a slight edge in shots, 36-32. The Knights had a five minute power play in the first period, but could not light the lamp.
Neumann (0-1, 0-1 ECAC West) gets right back into conference action tomorrow night when it travels to Hobart College. The puck is slated to drop at 7:00 PM.
