Schlesman and Marvel Lead Knights in Comeback Win

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team defeated King's (Pa.) College 73-63 on Thursday evening in non-conference action.

Jessica Schlesman notched a triple-double with 12 points, 15 rebounds and 12 assists. Erica Marvel led the Knights in scoring with 32 points. Colleen Hinde scored 12 points and Lauren Walker added 11.

King's took advantage to a slow start by Neumann and held an 11-0 lead eight minutes into the game.

Marvel put the Knights on the board with a layup with 11:17 left in the first half. Neumann started to works its way back into the game, getting with within five, 29-24, with 35 seconds left in the half. King's held a 31-24 lead at the half.

To open the second half, the Knights used a 13-8 run to cut the lead 39-37 on a Marvel layup at the 14:59 mark. King's answered with an 8-3 run of its own to extend the lead back to 47-40.

With the Lady Monarchs holding a 52-44 lead, the Knights went on an 11-0 run to overcome the deficit and take a 55-52 lead with 6:22 left in regulation. Hinde hit a layup during a run to put Neumann in the lead. King's hit a three-pointer to tie the game at 55-all. With five minutes on the clock, Marvel hit her own three-pointer to put Neumann in the lead again, this time for good.

In the final five minutes, the Knights shooting was hot and they outscored the Lady Monarchs 15-8 to come away with the exciting 10 point win, 73-63.

"The team kept their heads up and had a never quite attitude in the game", said Head Coach Frank Farnese. "We played five minutes at a time and stayed positive. The leadership by Schlesman on the court was great and Marvel's shooting was unbelievable."

Neumann evens its record at 2-2 for the season. The Knights are now off until after Thanksgiving when they open conference action at Keystone on December 2. The women begin at 6:00 PM as the first game of a doubleheader with the men.
