RADNOR, Pa. – The Neumann University volleyball team fell to Cabrini College 3-1 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Championship game on Saturday evening.
Cabrini was the No. 1 seed in the post season while Neumann was No. 3. Neumann won the first set 25-22. The Cavaliers jumped out to a quick 6-2 lead. The Knights worked their way back and tied the game at 10 on a kill by Anna Waltz. The teams would trade points until Neumann worked its way to a 19-15 lead. Cabrini got to within three, 21-18. Waltz had a kill to put the Knights at 24 points. It took four chances, but a kill by Kelsey D'Imperio gave the Knights the first set, 25-22.
The second set battled back and forth as well, until the end. Cabrini held a 20-18 lead and then rattled off five straight points to tie the match at one set apiece.
The third (25-16) and fourth (25-21) sets were much like the second, where the teams battled back and forth, but Cabrini outlasted Neumann to take the match and the CSAC Championship 3-1.
Katelin Kuklentz led the Knights with 14 kills and 14 digs. D'Imperio finished with 13 kills. Julia Malseed notched 23 digs while Danielle Kwapisz added 18. Kat Wolf handed out 43 assists.
Neumann (22-14) will now await the ECAC Tournament announcement on Monday to see if its season will continue.
