ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's ice hockey team defeated Morrisville State 8-4 on Saturday evening to wrap up the 2013 portion of the 2013-14 season.
Brandon Gagne led the Knights with two goals and an assist. Ryan Luiten netted two goals. Nick Perruccio and Matt Zendejas each had a goal and two assists while Jon Low handed out three assists.
Shayne Morrissey had a goal and an assist. Chris Bournazos dished out two assists. Ben Curley made 19 saves in net.
Neumann held the pace in the first period, scoring three goals. Morrissey opened the scoring just 36 seconds into the game off assists from Perruccio and Bournazos. Luiten scored his first goal at the 3:19 mark and Bournazos and Kajon McKay tallied the assist. Zendejas wrapped up the scoring in the first period at the 16:49 mark. Low and Gagne had the assists.
In the second period, three goals were scored in a span of three minutes. The Mustangs broke their goose egg with a power play goal at the 13:34 mark. Luiten answered a minute later to give the Knights back a three goal cushion, 4-1. Sam House Morrissey drew the assists. Gagne tallied what would be the game-winner with 3:49 left in the third and chased the Mustangs starting goalie. Zendejas and Low had the helpers.
Morrisville opened the third period with three goals to pull to within one, 5-4. Neumann answered with three unanswered goals for an 8-4 lead and final. Jory Mullin, Gagne and Perruccio tallied the goals in the third period.
Neumann improves to 5-3-2 overall. The Knights will compete in the Middlebury College Tournament after the first of the year. Neumann will face Southern Maine University at 4:00 PM on January 3.
