IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball dropped a close 61-59 Colonial States Athletics Conference (CSAC) contest to Immaculata University on Monday evening.
Reggie Coleman led the Knights with 20 points. Mark Blount hit another double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Both halves contained runs by each team before the game came down to the last shot. The Mighty Macs held the two point advantage with 46 seconds left in regulation. Rich Whitten brought the Knights to within two by making two-of-two free throws. Neumann then fouled Immaculata twice, and the Mighty Macs missed their free throw opportunities to put away the game. Blount had two chances to tie the game. He missed on a layup with eight seconds left and then as the buzzer sounded.
Immaculata jumped out to a 10 point lead, 17-7, nine minutes into the game. Neumann then went on its own run and tied the game at 22-all with 6:05 left in the first half. The Mighty Macs held a one point advantage, 32-31, at the half.
The second half started out like the first and the Mighty Macs built a 14 point lead, 47-33, eight-and-a-half minutes in. The Knights again went on their own run and with 6:35 left in regulation, Whitten hit a layup to put the Knights up by one, 50-49.
Immaculata answered and took back the lead and held a seven point lead, 59-52, with 1:31 left on the clock. Dom Gibson and Whitten hit back-to-back buckets for Neumann to get to within two. The teams then traded free throw, but the Knights could not get the tying basket to send the game to overtime.
Neumann is now 12-12 overall and 11-6 in conference action. The Knights host Gwynedd-Mercy as part of a doubleheader with the women on Wednesday in the regular season finale.
