Knights Fall in Hard Fought CSAC Semifinal

RADNOR, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball lost a hard fought battle to Cabrini College 90-77 on Tuesday evening in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) semifinal action.

 

Reggie Coleman led the Knights with 20 points and four assists. Rich Whitten netted 18. Dom Gibson hit five from downtown for his 15 points. TaVaune Griffin finished with 12 points. Griffin and Mark Blount each had three blocks.

 

Cabrini came out ready to play and took an early 10-0 lead before Griffin hit a layup to put Neumann on the board. Coleman connected on a three at the 14:01 mark to make it s 16-15 Cabrini lead. The Cavaliers responded with five points to extend their lead to 21-15, but the Knights answered and Blount gave Neumann its first lead of the contest, 22-21, with 9:28 left in the first.

 

After the teams battled back and forth and had a tied game of 27, Gibson hit one of his five three-pointers for a 30-27 Knights lead. Whitten connected on a lay-up for a five point advantage with 3:50 left in the first half. Cabrini came storming back and finished the half on a 13-2 run to take a 40-34 lead into halftime.

 

The Cavaliers built a 15 point lead during the early part of the second half. The Knights were not going to go away that easily and started to chip back into the game. With 7:34 left in regulation, Coleman hit a jumper to cut the lead to six, 65-59. With 6:10 left, Terrance Clark connected on a three for a five-point game, 67-62.

 

Neumann continued to keep the pressure on, but Cabrini took advantage of its chances and built an 11 point lead back up, 77-66, with two minutes remaining. Whitten scored the last points for the Knights with 16 seconds left show they would not just go away, however, the Cavaliers took home the 90-77 win to advance to the CSAC Championship game.

 

The game marks the end of Terrance Clark's four years as a Knight. Neumann ends its season 13-14 overall while advancing to the CSAC semifinals for the third straight season.
