Box Score

SCRANTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team completed the home-and-home sweep of Marywood University on Wednesday evening, 64-60, in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.

Mark Blount had a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Rich Whitten had 11 points and Reggie Coleman added 10. TaVaune Griffin pulled down 10 rebounds. All 10 Knights in the game put points on the board in the team win.

The scoring started slowing and Neumann held a 13-5 lead midway through the first half. The Knights were held to just two points over the next six minutes and the Pacers took advantage, scoring 14 points to take a 19-15 lead. Marywood was ahead 31-23 at halftime.

Neumann was not going to let an eight point halftime deficit keep it down in the second half and it started to chip away at the Marywood lead. With 11:05 on the clock, Griffin made a layup to tie the game at 44-all. The Knights outscored the Pacers 41-29 in the second half.

A layup by Blount with 8:24 left on the clock would give Neumann a 49-48 lead that it would not relinquish for the rest of regulation, but Pacers did not let go quietly. Marywood made it a two-point game, 62-60, with 22 seconds left. Zach Thomas made two free throws with 19 ticks for a four point Knights lead. The Pacers would not find the net again and the Knights came away with the win.

Neumann reaches the .500 mark with the win, 11-11. The Knights are 10-5 in the tight conference race. Neumann will travel to Centenary on Saturday for an important conference game that will have playoff seeding implications as both teams have 10 CSAC wins. Tipoff is slated for 3:00 PM.
