ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's ice hockey team beat ECAC West Elmira College 6-2, Friday evening.
Brandon Gagne had a goal and an assist. Craig Cowie dished out two assists. Braely Torris (jr. Red Deer, Alberta / Southern Maine (ECAC East) made 27 saves in the game.
Elmira scored first 3:52 into the first period, but winter storm "Nemo” started early, as the Knights had a flurry of goals, four goals in the first period to be exact. Scott Elkow (sr. Saint Albert, Alberta / Saint Albert Steel (AJHL) tied the game at one just under three minutes later. Harley Garrioch (sr. Cross Lake, Manitoba / Flin Flon Bombers (SJHL) netted a power play goals less than a minute later. Chris Bournazos (so. Naperville, Ill. / Owatonna Express (NAHL) notched the eventual game-winner with 3:05 left on the clock. Sean Crozier (sr. Renfrew, Ontario / Pembroke Lumber Kings (CCHL) rounded out the first period scoring 36 seconds later.
The Soaring Eagles started the second period with an early goal just 1:02 into the period. The Knights committed a five minute major and gave the Soaring Eagles a five against three opportunity that came up short. The Knights held a 4-2 advantage after the second intermission.
Aaron Keaney scored on a delayed penalty while Gagne scored an empty net goal in the third period for Neumann to seal the conference win.
The Knights (13-6-3, 5-6-1 ECAC West) are scheduled to play home against No. 5 Hobart College Saturday, February 9, slated for 7 p.m.
