ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's lacrosse team defeated Eastern College 9-7 on a cold Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.
Lexy Wilkinson, Meghan Garsey and Alexa McIntyre each netted two goals for the Knights. Lauren Frampton had five caused turnovers. Christina Hughes made two saves in net.
The Knights scored the first two goals of the game, both a man-down. Eastern responded with four straight goals. Neumann ended the half with three straight goals and took a 5-4 lead into halftime.
Rebecca Dolenti gave the Knights two-goal lead just 19 seconds into the second half. The teams battled throughout the second half. Garsey scored the final goals of the game with 12:17 left on the clock to put Neumann up 9-7. The Knights held onto the ball and held on for the 9-7 win.
“I am so proud of our team today. It was a total team effort”, said Head Coach Christy Malone. “Coming off of a long week, 4 games in 7 days- this was a big test for our team and we responded well. I believe this win will help our confidence and trust in each other and we can roll this feeling into our conference play. I am pleased with our hard work shown today and this past week!”
Neumann (6-1) opens conference play this week when it travels to Notre Dame on Wednesday.
