Box Score

ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University women's lacrosse team secured the No.2 seed in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Friday afternoon, as the Knights beat Immaculata University 20-10 on Senior Day.

The Knights were led by all of the seniors, as all nine seniors started the game. Senior goalie Michelle Miller started the game and she made one save to help guide the Knights.

Neumann played their third game in four days and Immaculata took advantage of the weary legs to start the game. The Mighty Macs scored the first goal with 28:44 remaining in the first half to take a 1-0 lead.

Andrea Lorusso got the Knights on the board at the 26:03 mark to tie the score 1-1.

The Knights would score another three goals in quick succession to take a 4-1 lead.

Neumann exchanged goals in the first half with the Mighty Macs, but always kept Immaculata at quite a distance. The Knights led 12-4 at the half.

If you were to choose an area where the Knights have excelled this season, one could make an argument that the team has defended well and more so, good distribution of goal scorers.

Case in point is that the Knights had nine different scorers in the first half alone of the 12 goals they scored. Emily Sanders scored two goals in similar fashion, once in the first half and the other in the second half. Sanders won the ball in her defensive end and the notion to clear the ball was the initial plan. But Sanders feet were working double time and the Mighty Macs defense didn't defend the gaps quick enough. Sanders scored first off a free position shot and then later in the game, she buzzed up the field with no one able to get close enough to her to even foul her for her second goal.

Neumann held an 8-6 goal margin in the second half, but tied legs were evident at times in the game for the Knights for good reason.

The Knights defense maintained good balance and only gave the Mighty Macs four free position shots where they only scored of the four attempts. The Knights attackers were eager in attacking space and keen to get shots off on net. Their persistence created 12 free position attempts and they cash in nine different times.

Lexy Wilkinson scored four goals with Meghan Garsey and Rebecca Dolenti scoring three goals each in the game. Chrissy Hughes came in for relief of Miller in net and made seven saves.

“We did a great job dealing with Immaculata's athleticism and we did it as a team,” said Coach Malone. ”We came in with a great mindset and I look forward to carrying that through the playoffs.”

The Knights (13-4, 7-1 CSAC) Will host the CSAC Championship semifinal game as a No. 2 seed.
