ROSEMONT, Pa. – The Neumann University men's lacrosse team got their first Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) win against Rosemont College 21-5, Saturday afternoon.
Neumann wondered what it would take to get its first conference win and Patrick Rose provided the answer. Rose led the Knights will a massive 12 point performance (4 goals and 8 assists).
The Knights outscored the Ravens 7-1 in the first period. They scored four goals in a one minute span with Ryan Lee scoring first, Ryan Eber scoring the second goal, Rose scoring the third and Evan Zielinski capped off the Knights scoring splurge.
The Knights have shown well in the first period throughout the season. It has been the second period that has posed problems for the boys, but today was a reversal of fortunes. The Knights scored six goals in the second period and leave no doubt in the outcome. Ryan O'Kane scored three of the six goals and take a 13-1 halftime lead. Alex Becker didn't have to make any saves in the first half, but left wondering how the Ravens scored their only goal in the half.
Andrew Neubauer replaced Becker for the final 30 minutes and he had to absorb more pressure from the Ravens attack. The Knights outscored the Ravens in the second half, but Neubauer conceded four goals and he made four saves.
Neumann tattooed the Ravens cage, as they had a season high 61 shots on Rosemont. Zielinski gobbled up ground balls, like “Pac-Man” eats dots with eight ground balls on the day. Zielinski also won 13 of 18 faceoffs.
“To be honest, I saw this result coming earlier in the season, but pleased that we clinched in the attacking zone,” said Coach Malampy.
The Knights (2-10, 1-4 CSAC) will return to action when they travel to Gwynedd-Mercy College for their season finale on Thursday, April 25 set for 7 p.m.
