Mighty Macs Prevail Over Men's Lacrosse

4/6/2013 4:26:00 PM

Box Score

IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Neumann University men's lacrosse team strong first period not enough to put away Immaculata University losing 13-12 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC), Saturday afternoon.

Ryan Eber led the way for the Knights, as he scored four goals and he had one assist and Kevin Fonio scored three goals.

The Knights haven't show that they are a high scoring team this season, but they used a seven goal first period outburst to discount any notion they couldn't score goals by the bunches. Eber scored the first goal of the game and Chris Scott scored the fourth goal to give the Knights a 4-0 advantage. Neumann closed the first period with a 7-2 lead.

The second period wasn't as entertaining as the first period, as only five total goals summed up the second period. Immaculata closed the margin as they scored three goals and Neumann punched in two goals. The Knights held a 9-5 halftime lead.

The Mighty Macs came out of halftime ready to go and cut into the Knights four goal margin. Immaculata did better than that, when they scored six consecutive goals and take a 11-9 lead. Kevin Fonio stopped the barrage of Immaculata's goals by scoring with 3:16 left in the third and trailed the Mighty Macs 11-10.

Immaculata regained the two goal margin by scoring 23 seconds into the fourth period. Fonio cut the deficit to one goal with 7:17 remaining in the game and both teams exchanged goals with the Mighty Macs completing the comeback and sustaining the lead at the end of the game.

Alex Becker made 18 saves in the game.

The Knights (1-8, 0-2 CSAC) will return to action when they compete against CSAC opponents Centenary College at home on Wednesday, April 10 at 7 p.m.
