FREDERICK, Md. – The Neumann University field hockey team picked up its second straight win, defeating Hood College 5-0 on Saturday afternoon.
Jordan Hopkins opened the scoring early, scoring off a pass from Lindsey Spatola just six minute into the game. Carolynn Bacho grabbed a loose ball and put it in the back of the net in the 12th minute for a 2-0 Knights lead.
Megan Shumate notched her first collegiate goal as Kenya Woods fed her the ball for a 3-0 lead. As time was winding down in the first half, Spatola scored off her own rebound for a 4-0 Knights advantage.
Jess Harrell added one goal in the 51st minute for the 5-0 final.
The Knights defense held the Blazers to just one shot in the game. Keeper Becca Wallace did not need to make a save in the game en route to the shutout.
Coach Kurpel said after the game, "I am so proud of the girls! They are playing with energy and are responding well to the coaching. We are making great halftime and timeout adjustments. They are passing with speed and they are reading each other well. The girls are keeping their eyes on the prize."
Neumann (2-4) will host Dickinson on Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 PM.
