ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's ice hockey team fell to Elmira College 5-2 in ECAC West action on Friday evening.
The Soaring Eagles scored first, 2:24 into the game, as they dumped the puck in from the blue line and it found its way into the back of the net.
Shane Topf tied the game at one at the 11:18 mark off assists from Mike Cauley and Collin O'Neil.
Elmira scored the only goal of the second, on a 5-on-3 power play at the 2:21 mark.
Ryan Luiten tied the game at two on a wrist shot, 6:04 into the third period. Jory Mullin and Mikko Virtanen tallied the assists.
The Soaring Eagles took advantage of a power play and netted the eventual game-winner at the 9:00 minute mark for a 3-2 lead. Elmira notched another goal two minutes later, this time while the play was 4-on-4. The Soaring Eagles sealed the win with a shorthanded, empty net goal, with 1:16 remaining in the game.
Ben Curley made 24 saves in net. Neumann is now 7-7-3 overall and 2-4-1 in conference action. The two teams will meet again tomorrow evening. The puck is slated to drop at 7:00 PM.
