ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's hockey team fell to Stevenson University, 4-3 in overtime, on Sunday afternoon in non-conference action.
In the back and forth game, five of the seven goals game on a power play.
Megan Russelo opened the scoring with 1:33 left in the first period to give the Knights a 1-0 lead after one. Kelly Fox tallied the assist
Stevenson knotted the game at one on the power play 6:46 into the second period. Casey Kilduff netted her second goal of the weekend with 2:13 left on the clock, also on the power play, to give Neumann a 2-1 lead heading into the second intermission. Russelo and Grace Klienbach tallied the assists.
The Mustangs tied the game at two five minutes into the second period. Edie Brenning responded less than a minute later, again on the power play, for a 3-2 game. Meghan Power and Angela Gilmour notched the assists.
Stevenson took advantage of a 5-on-3 power play to pull even again, 3-3, at the 10 minute mark. Both teams worked on killing off penalties as regulation came to a close with a tie score.
The Knights were in the process of killing off a penalty in overtime, when the Mustangs were called for Too Many Players on the ice. While the teams were playing 4-on-4, the Knights were called for another penalty. With the 4-on-3 advantage, the Mustangs were able to find the back of the net for the 4-3 overtime win.
Justina Mayr made 31 saves in net.
Neumann (4-11-1) will host Chatham next weekend for a pair of ECAC West games. Action gets underway at 7:00 PM on Friday and 3:00 PM on Saturday.
