HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – The Neumann University men's basketball team defeated Centenary College 54-50 on Wednesday evening in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.
Kevin Green netted 15 points for the Knights. DeShawn Lowman notched 13 points and four steals. Mark Blount pulled down 14 rebounds and added 12 points for a double-double. He also had five blocks.
Neumann started the game by scoring the first six points. That was the biggest lead either team would hold in the first half and the Knights and Cyclones went into halftime knotted at 26.
With 12:16 left in the second half, Green hit a three-pointer to put Neumann up 38-37, a lead in which the Knights would not relinquish. Green followed with another basket from downtown and a jumper for a 43-37 score. Reggie Coleman and Rich Whitten connected on back-to-back layups to round out a 14-0 run by the Knights and a 47-37 score.
Neumann held a 53-46 advantage with 3:52 left on the clock when both teams went on a two-and-a-half minute scoreless drought. The Cyclones netted two free throws and a layup as the final minute was approaching for a 53-50 game. Again, neither team could connect as the time was winding down. With three seconds left, Whitten made 1-of-2 from the line for a four points lead to seal the win for the Knights.
Neumann (8-4, 3-2 CSAC) travels to Cairn University on Saturday for more CSAC action beginning at 4:00 PM.
