Box Score ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University field hockey team forced extra time, but could not complete the come-from-behind bid and fell 4-3 in overtime to Gwynedd Mercy University on Saturday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.
Gwynedd Mercy scored the only goal in a quiet first half, coming in the 12th minute. Neumann had its chances, including two breakaways, but could not get the ball in the back of the cage. The second half was complete opposite.
The Griffins opened a 2-0 lead in the 54th minute. Jordan Hopkins cut the lead to 2-1 in the 61st minute as she banked the ball into the net. Alexa McIntyre assisted. Gwynedd Mercy took back its two goal lead just three minutes later.
In a flurry of events, Jessica Harrell put the Knights back to within one again in the 67th minute. Again, McIntyre assisted. The Knights were then awarded a penalty stroke with 1:32 left in regulation. Lindsey Spatola knotted the game at three on the conversion and sent the game into extra time.
It took just 1:44 into overtime for the Griffins to spoil the Knights bid for a come-from-behind win, winning 4-3.
Becca Wallace made 17 outstanding saves in net, keeping the Knights within striking distance.
Neumann (10-8, 4-2 CSAC) wraps up the regular season on Wednesday when it hosts Cedar Crest College in CSAC action beginning at 4:00 PM.
